Blog Post #2 Due on 6/8

I am taking 525-Technology in the Classroom this June and would like to share a resource that we learned about last night in class. After completing a reading on graphic organizers for class, we had the opportunity to experiment with various programs like Kidspiration, and IMovie, which allow you, or your students to create/manipulate visual images along with text to facilitate understanding of material in a given subject. I think that graphic organizers would be an especially useful tool for social studies, because using pictures and possibly small amounts of text would enable students to understand abstract or complicated ideas more quickly through brief visual images. I also believe that these tools are also worth sharing because they can be used by the teacher to prepare before class or they can be used in class by the students to help construct their own meaning.

  1. Meg - I'm so excited to see you sharing the resources we've played with in the Integrating Technology course! To anyone looking to try out Kidspiration (highly recommended), it's available on all the computers in the labs @ Bank St, and you can download a 30-day demo version to try out on your home computer.
